Comments on the RSA Rehabilitation Training Program - April 5th Deadline 2:00 PM PDT

An important reminder.  The Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA), the federal agency that administers the grants supporting most of CCER’s services, is inviting input on “the role and effectiveness of the RCEP program in meeting the needs of State VR agencies and community rehabilitation programs for training.”

While RSA has not specified the types of changes they may be considering for training programs, it is likely that any changes away from the current Regional Continuing Education Program (RCEP) system would have a big impact on our ability to continue to support you and your efforts.

We strongly encourage you to respond to RSA’s request for comments by sending an email to: Timothy.Muzzio@ed.gov by April 5th.

RSA is “particularly interested in comments from individuals with disabilities; their parents, families, guardians, advocates, and authorized representatives; and those entities and individuals serving individuals with disabilities under the Act” (e.g., CRPs).

Why should you care?  Under the current RCEP system, CCER is able to provide training and resources that are referenced to Northwest concerns and issues.  RSA is not required to spend these financial resources in any particular way.  While RSA has not specified how the system might be changed, consider the possible alternative of having training and support centralized to a single, national center in Washington, DC. Or consider the possibilities of supporting more graduate student training in rehabilitation counseling, or of abolishing the regional approach to training and funding state specific VR in-service training needs.

Go to the RSA site: http://www.ed.gov/legislation/FedRegister/other/2007-1/030607c.html for complete information.

It is really important for your voice to be heard. Public input will make a big difference in the direction RSA decides to go.
