It is being reported in Washington that conservative organizations have
mobilized against the stimulus bill, and that calls today are coming in to
Congressional offices at 100-1 against the levels of funding currently proposed
for social programs. While VR is not a specific target, broad, across-the-board
cuts to domestic social spending would certainly reduce the funds proposed for
VR, Independent Living, Older Blind, and IDEA. Anyone who cares about preserving
these funds, and the services and jobs that they represent, should call their
Congressional offices right away. If you have already phoned, please do so
again. If you haven't phoned yet, call right away! It will take less than 2
minutes.
Give your name and the name of the town in which you live. Say you are calling
to urge the Senator or Representative to vote yes on an economic recovery bill
that retains the Senate funding for Vocational Rehabilitation and other programs
assisting persons with disabilities.
