There is a great deal of concern that several provisions important to persons with disabilities in the Senate stimulus bill may be in jeopardy.

Potential amendments include, but are not limited to:

1) potential Senate floor amendments to cut the Medicaid funds for states

2) potential Senate floor amendments to expand tax cuts by cutting discretionary funds (perhaps through an across-the-board reduction in all discretionary funds, including state VR grants).

The longer the bill stays on the floor, the greater potential for changes that cause the entire package and agreement to collapse.

The Senate debate is scheduled to begin next week. If you have not already called your Senators, please phone and leave the following message for the staff person who handles the stimulus legislation:

"I am calling to urge Senator ______ to vote in support of a stimulus bill that retains the $500 million for VR State Grants and moves the bill quickly to conference and to the President for signature."

To reach your Senator's DC office, call the Senate operator at
202-224-3121 and ask to be connected to your Senator's office.
